Assess and monitor overall health, provide initial and routine medications and vaccinations, and determine basic animal information for each Shelter animal on intake or as required.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for daily medical care of Shelter animals including daily health checks Administer immunizations, prescribed medicines, deworming, and flea and tick treatments Responsible for provision of food, water, kennel cleaning, and walking of animals in medical care Perform animal bathing, grooming, and nail trimming as needed Explain concept of prepubescent sterilization, pre-release sterilization, and humane euthanasia Assists in performance of euthanasia when necessary Provide support to adopters and foster volunteers regarding medical questions or care Input data for animal medical records, treatments, and medicines for all Shelter animals Notate animal behavior during medical assessment and report issues to appropriate staff Notify Shelter Veterinarian in emergent medical situations or deterioration of medical conditions Follow established disease control protocols to clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and general medical areas daily Track and inform Manager when inventories are low, stock and organize pharmacy Properly clean, pack, and autoclave all medical/surgical materials Assist with medical education of staff, volunteers, and the public Position Requirements:

Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required, certification as Veterinary Assistant preferred Veterinary experience preferred Knowledge of basic computer software required Physical Factors:
Work performed in shelter medical environment, high exposure to animals, requires animal handling Peanut butter used throughout the facility Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.

with assistance Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious or feral animals, high noise levels, wet surfaces, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects Long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, data entry/computer work, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions may be required Working Conditions:
Varying shifts, weekdays and weekends, and some holiday work required Overtime work as necessary for staffing levels or finishing tasks
