About Ishita:

Hello! My name is Ishita, and I am currently a Dual Degree Master of Biomedical Science and Master of Public Health student at UMDNJ. I received my undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in Cell Biology and Neuroscience with a minor in Political Science. I believe that success in education comes with dedication and preparation. Tutoring is one of the best forms, as it allows one-on-one understanding of what each student needs to succeed. I have had the opportunity of helping students from the 1st grade in math and reading to students at the college level for calculus and biology. In my experience of tutoring subjects from the SATs to MCATS, I have learned that best way to help any students to not only understand their weaknesses but to draw in on their strengths. One of my most memorable tutoring moments was seeing my students improve their reading and math aptitude from 3rd to 5th grade level by simple assignment of reading a few pages of their book every night before going to sleep.
I have also learned that every subject and level of education requires a different mode of learning. For instance, SATs and MCATS, two standardized tests require basic understanding of the material but even better comprehension of test techniques. For students at the High school level, I have realized over the years that each subject must be approached according to what the teachers expects of their students; whether it be rote review of material to an in-depth understanding, the students must be taught with patience for every topic. At the graduate level, I have found that most students are well-versed with the material however grasping the "bigger picture" concepts is what I need to tackle for my students.
It is this preparation and the rewards that come with that diligence that I would like to instill in my future students. They will be able to manage their struggles with confidence and thorough understanding of concepts. I strongly believe parental involvement and encouragement is crucial to student's education therefore they will always be well informed. I will create and follow a syllabus for each of my students and parents will be constantly notified of how well the student is doing with the subject. I know that that as long as my students have the willingness to try something different, I ensure that all of their past and current work continues to improve from strength to strength. I look forward to meeting with you and sharing my expertise in various subjects!
Sincerely,
Ishita
